Welcome to ASU Robotics Camps 2010!

What is ASU Robotics Camp?

ASU’s Robotics Camp is a summer program series designed for middle school and high school students who intend to pursue a science and engineering career. The camps are sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education's FIPSE Program, Intel, and the School of Computing, Informatics and Decision Systems Engineering at Arizona State University. Camp instructors use component-based robot construction, robotics programming, Web programming, and Alice game programming as a vehicle to teach the latest engineering design concepts and computing technologies. The robots built by students will enter a robotics competition and demonstration at the end of the camp.

7UP RobotCamp, June 21 to July 2, 2010, Monday through Friday, from 8:30am to 12:30pm*. This camp is designed for both middle school and high school students. Middle school students will be taught at the level of difficulty similar to FIRST Lego League (FLL) Robotics Challenge, while the high school students will work on more difficult missions such as programming autonomous robots. The program will cover Alice 3D movie/game programming, NXT robot construction, NXT programming, and a robotics competition.
*Students in the camp can also sign up the additional afternoon program from 1 to 4:30pm.

9UP RobotCamp July 6 to July 16, 2010 from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. This camp is designed for high school students. Students of grades 7 and 8 can be admitted, if they attended 7UP RobotCamp. The program will cover Microsoft Robotics Studio, robot construction, VPL programming, C# programming, Web programming in Service-Oriented Computing, and a robotics competition.

As a session in 9UP RobotCamp, we also train high school teachers who are involved in courses or clubs in computing, game programming, and robotics in their schools. Please contact us for detail at: cidse.summercamps@asu.edu

Both 7UP and 9UP camps will be taught in ASU Engineering Building Brickyard, 699 S. Mill Ave, Tempe, 85281.

The camps will be taught by Dr. Yinong Chen and his assistants. Dr. Chen is a computing and robotics expert, who led ASU teams to win two champion titles in the "Ultimate Architecture Sumo-Robot Competition" in Las Vegas in 2005 and in 2006. Dr. Chen is also the organizer of the Arizona Robotics Challenge Series and ASU Robotics Team advisor (video and article), sponsored by Intel. Dr. Chen organized and instructed all the previous ASU Summer Robotics Camps since 2006.

Who Should Attend?

7UP RobotCamp 2010 is designed for students entering grades 7 through 12 in Fall 2010.
9UP RobotCamp 2010 is designed for students entering grades 9 through 12 in Fall 2010.
Prior experience in programming or robotics is not required. However, participants should have a passion for science and engineering and be highly computer literate. Students without programming background and with programming background will be taught in different groups and will compete in different leagues in the robotics competitions in the camp's closing ceremony. We also train high school teachers who are involved in computer courses, game programming and robotics clubs in their schools. Teachers will participate in the 9UP RobotCamp from July 6 to July 16, 2009 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., week days.

Robotics Competition

Robotics Competitions will be organized for participants at the end of the camp. Competitions will be organized in different leagues, depending on the levels of their study in the camp. You can follow the links "Previous Camps" and "News" to watch the videos of previous year competition. Watch the Closing Ceremony 2009.

Tuition

For the 7UP RobotCamp from June 21 to July 2, the tuition is for morning program is $275 and for full-day program is $475, which includes $30 non-refundable processing fee.

For the 9UP RobotCamp from July 6 to July 16, the tuition is $475, which includes $30 non-refundable processing fee.

For more detail about program options and tuition, please see Program Options and Tuition Table.

All payment must be made online at this link (To be released once the online registration is open).
