What is ASU Robotics Camp?

ASU Robotics Camp is a summer program series designed for high school students who intend to pursue a science and engineering career. Sponsored by U.S. Department of Education, Intel and ASU School of Computing and Informatics, the program uses robot construction and programming as a vehicle to teach the latest engineering design concepts and computing technologies. The summer program has been offered since 2005. A special track will be offered in 2008 to teachers to help them enhance technology teaching techniques in their schools. (Sponsored by U.S. Department of Education) Robotics Camp 2008 will be offered June 23 – July 3, from 8:30am to 5:00pm. The camp will be taught by Dr. Yinong Chen and a teaching assistant. Dr. Chen is a computing and robotics expert, who led ASU teams to win champion titles in the "Ultimate Architecture Sumo-Robot Competition" in Las Vegas in 2005 and 2006, respectively. Dr. Chen is also the organizer of the "Arizona Robotics Challenge 2008" between ASU and the University of Arizona taking place in April 2008.

Who Should Attend?

The Robotics Camp 2008 has two tracks: a track for high school students and a track for teachers. Student Track: Robotics Camp 2008 is designed for students entering 9th, 10th, 11th or 12th grade in Fall 2008. Prior experience in programming or robotics is not required. However, participating students should have a passion for science and engineering and be highly computer literate. Student enrollment is limited to 30. Teacher Track: In order to disseminate a new computing curriculum in high schools, in-service teachers, as well as pre-service teachers (senior or graduate students in education major, e.g., students in ASU College of Education) are encouraged to participate. Special stipends are available for teachers. Teacher enrollment is limited to 10.

Tuition

Tuition will be $375, plus a $25 non-refundable application fee. Financial assistance is available to students who show financial need and to teachers who are teaching or plan to teach computing in their schools.
