What is ASU Summer Robotics Camp?

ASU’s Robotics Camps are summer program series designed for middle school (7Up camp) and high school (9Up Camp) students who intend to pursue a science and engineering career. The camps were established through a U.S. Department of Education's FIPSE Program grant (2007-2010), an Arizona Science Foundation grant (2007-2009), and Intel Education Partnership. The program is administrated by the School of Computing and Augmented Intelligence at Arizona State University. Camp instructors use component-based robot construction, robotics programming, Web programming, and Alice game programming, and phone app programming as a vehicle to teach the latest engineering design concepts and computing technologies. The robots built by students will enter a robotics challenge and demonstration at the end of the camp. For more program details, please read the "PROGRAM" page.

7Up RobotCamp, June 5 to June 16, 2023 (excluding Saturday and Sunday), from 8:15am to 4:45pm.
This camp is designed for students entering grades 7 and 8. Exceptional students entering grade 6 can be considered. Students will start to learn programming using Alice programming environment with 3D animation, movie and game development. Then, student will design and construct robots, learn EV3 robotics programming, and participate in the robotics challenge at the level of difficulty similar to FIRST Lego League (FLL) Robotics Competition.

9Up RobotCamp, June 5 to June 16, 2023 (excluding Saturday and Sunday), from 8:15am to 4:45pm.
This camp is designed for students entering grades 9, 10, 11, and 12. The program will cover robot construction, visual programming language programming, C# programming, Web programming in Service-Oriented Computing, Phone app programming, and a robotics challenge. The 7Up camps will be taught in ASU Brickyard Engineering Building, 699 S. Mill Ave, Tempe, 85281.

The camps will be taught by Dr. Gennaro De Luca, assisted by a number of teaching assistants. Dr. De Luca is a computing and robotics expert, who won a number of robotics compeition prizes including Microsoft Imagine Cup and Intel Cup. Dr. De Luca is a key co-inventor of the ASU VIPLE (Visual IoT/Robotics Programming Language). (CBS News Video , ASU News Video and ASU News Article). Dr. Yinong Chen established this ASU Summer Robotics Camps in 2006. Dr. De Luca has worked with Dr. Chen in various robotics projects, compeitions, and also co-organized this robotics camps in the recent years.

Tuition

 The tuition for 7Up Camp is $700. Tuitions include $50 non-refundable processing fee.
Scholarships (assistantship) are available for both of our Robotics camps. The scholarship can cover full or partial tuition, depending on the need, the available fund, and the number of applicants. Those who would like to apply for the scholarship must pay the $50 non-refundable processing fee. We will send you an email with the scholarship questionnaire that will need to be submitted with the necessary paperwork. Please do not include any tax documents with social security numbers. If your child is part of a lunch program at school, please provide that documentation from your school. The applications will be evaluated one month before the camp starts. Seats are guaranteed if the full or partial tuition is awarded, and the $50 registration fee is received.

Scholarships can be awarded to cover the tuition of the K-12 school teachers who are teaching or plan to teach computing or robotics classes in their schools. An endorsement letter from the school principal is required.

To keep the program cost as low as possible for everyone, the program does not offer ASU employee/student discount.

Contact and Registration

The camp has a fixed capacity, and the registration will be open until the camp is full. The seats will be guaranteed after the payment and confirmation. For those who applied for financial assistant, seats will be granted if the financial assistant is approved. Pre-arrangement can be made, in special cases, to hold a seat till four weeks before the camp starts.
