What is ASU Summer Robotics Camp?
Download PDF Flyer in English and PDF Flyer en español and Video 2012, Video 2010ASU’s Robotics Camps are summer program series designed for middle school (7Up camp) and high school (9Up Camp)students who intend to pursue a science and engineering career. The camps were elstablished through a U.S. Department of Education's FIPSE Program grant (2007-2010), an Arizona Science Foundation grant (2007-2009), Intel Education Partnership, and ASU Office of the Vice President for Educational Partnerships. The program is administrated by the School of Computing, Informatics and Decision Systems Engineering at Arizona State University. Camp instructors use component-based robot construction, robotics programming, Web programming, and Alice game programming, and phone app programming as a vehicle to teach the latest engineering design concepts and computing technologies. The robots built by students will enter a robotics challenge and demonstration at the end of the camp.
7Up RobotCamp, June
2 to June 13, 2014 (excluding Saturday and Sunday), from 8:30am
to 4:30pm.
This camp is designed for students entering grades 7 and 8.
Exceptional students entering grade 6 can be considered. Students will start to
learn programming using Alice programming environment with 3D animation, movie
and game development. Then, student will design and construct robots, learn
NXT-G robotics programming, and participate in the robotics challenge at the level of
difficulty similar to
FIRST Lego League (FLL) Robotics Competition.

9Up RobotCamp, June
16 to June 27, 2014 (excluding Saturday and Sunday), from 8:30am
to 4:30pm.
As a session in 7Up and 9Up RobotCamps, we also train school
teachers who are involved in courses or clubs in computing,
game programming, and robotics in their schools.

Brickyard, 699 S. Mill Ave, Tempe, 85281. The camps will be taught by Dr. Yinong Chen and his teaching assistants. Dr. Chen is a computing and robotics expert, who led ASU teams to win
two champion titles in the "Ultimate Architecture Sumo-Robot Competition" in Las Vegas in 2005 and
in 2006. Dr. Chen is also the organizer of the Arizona Robotics Challenge Series
and ASU Robotics Team advisor (video

Dr. Chen organized and instructed all
the previous ASU Summer Robotics Camps since 2006.
This
camp is designed for students entering grades 9, 10, 11,
and 12. The program will cover Microsoft Robotics Studio, robot
construction, VPL programming, C# programming, Web programming in
Service-Oriented Computing, Phone app programming, and a robotics challenge.

Tuition
The tuitions for both 7Up Camp and 9Up Camp are $600. Tuitions include $50 non-refundable processing fee.Limited financial assistance is available to students who have a high academic standing AND have financial need. The assistantship can cover the full or half tuition, depending on the need, the available fund, and the number of applications. Those who apply for the assistantship can enter the application in the enrollment page and then provide a letter (by mail) from the school showing that the academic standing of the student, e.g., GPA or grade report summary, and verify that the student is on the free lunch program of the school. The applications will be evaluated one month before the camp starts. Seats are graranteed if the full tuition or half tuition is awarded. Financial aid can be awarded to cover the tuition of the teachers who are teaching or plan to teach computing or robotics classes in their schools. An endorsement letter from the school principal is required.
