What is ASU Robotics Camp?
Download PDF Flyer in English and PDF Flyer en españolASU’s Robotics Camp is a summer program series designed for middle school and high school students who intend to pursue a science and engineering career. The camps are sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education's FIPSE Program, Intel, and the School of Computing, Informatics and Decision Systems Engineering at Arizona State University. Camp instructors use component-based robot construction, robotics programming, Web programming, and Alice game programming as a vehicle to teach the latest engineering design concepts and computing technologies. The robots built by students will enter a robotics competition and demonstration at the end of the camp.
7Up RobotCamp,
The same camp will be offered twice. You can choose of the
two time at your convenience.
(1) June 6 to June 17, 2011, Monday through Friday, from 8:30am
to 4:30pm. Enrollment Here

to 4:30pm.Enrollment Here
This camp is
designed for students entering grades 7, 8, and 9.
Exceptional students entering grade 6 can be considered. Students will start to
learn programming using Alice programming environment with 3D animation, movie
and game development. Then, student will design and construct robots, learn
NXG-G robotics programming, and participate in the robotics competition at the level of
difficulty similar to
FIRST Lego Leaguee
9Up RobotCamp,
June 20, to July 1, 2011, Monday through Friday, from 8:30am to 4:30pm. Enrollment Here
This
camp is designed for high school students. Students entering grades 9, 10, 11,
and 12 can be admitted. The program will cover Microsoft Robotics Studio, robot
construction, VPL programming, C# programming, Web programming in
Service-Oriented Computing, Phone 7 programming, and a robotics competition.
As a session in 7Up and 9Up RobotCamps, we also train school teachers who are involved in courses or clubs in computing, game programming, and robotics in their schools. Enrollment Here. Please contact us for detail at: cidse.summercamps@asu.edu
Both 7Up and 9Up camps will be taught in ASU Engineering Building Brickyard, 699 S. Mill Ave, Tempe, 85281.
The camps will be taught by Dr. Yinong Chen and his teaching assistants. Dr. Chen is a computing and robotics expert, who led ASU teams to win two champion titles in the "Ultimate Architecture Sumo-Robot Competition" in Las Vegas in 2005 and in 2006. Dr. Chen is also the organizer of the Arizona Robotics Challenge Series and ASU Robotics Team advisor (video article, sponsored by Intel. Dr. Chen organized and instructed all the previous ASU Summer Robotics Camps since 2006.

Tuition
For each camp (7Up or 9Up), the tuition is $495, which includes $30 non-refundable processing fee. All payment must be made online at this link (To be released once the online registration is open).Limited financial assistance is available to students who show financial need and to teachers who are teaching or plan to teach computing in their schools. There are two types of financial assistance available. (1) ASU VPEP has an educational partnership program with a list of school districts and schools to sponsor their students to ASU summer programs. Please check the PDF file . If your school is on the list, please call the number at the end of the page for application process. (2) For those who are not in the listed schools, you can enter your application in the enrollment page and provide a letter from your school showing that you are on the free lunch program of the school.
